Congressional Republicans Expand Medicaid Fraud Probe to Oregon
The House Energy and Commerce Committee sent a March 3 letter to Governor Kotek demanding Medicaid fraud oversight answers by March 17. Oregon was one of 10 expansion states targeted, per The Lund Report.
The letter references Oregon Roundup reporting on Uplifting Journey, a company receiving $2.3M in Medicaid reimbursements under questionable circumstances. Oregon's Medicaid is $354 million over budget for 2026.
The probe puts Oregon in an uncomfortable spotlight. OHA is already struggling with $117M in terminated pandemic-era funding and a projected $12 billion loss over the next decade. State Rep. Ed Diehl has separately urged review of provider enrollment.
Watch for: Kotek's response by March 17. Also whether CMS uses findings to impose additional oversight conditions on Oregon's Medicaid waiver, and whether the $354M overrun becomes ammunition for federal matching fund caps.
