Asante Rogue Regional Loses NLRB Fight to Overturn Union Vote
The NLRB rejected Asante Health's bid to overturn a unionization vote at Rogue Regional Medical Center, where 200+ technical workers voted 128-92 to join the Oregon Nurses Association, per The Lund Report.
Asante's challenge centered on union organizers campaigning in the cafeteria with pro-union sheet cakes the day before the vote. The NLRB disagreed this violated precedent. An NLRB regional director also filed a complaint alleging Asante threatened and discriminated against union supporters.
The ruling arrives as Asante faces financial pressure, having closed maternity services at Ashland. The nurses' union alleged Asante policies were causing staffing shortages.
Watch for: Whether Asante appeals to federal circuit court. If the separate unfair labor practice complaint succeeds, Asante would face organized labor across multiple employee classifications, changing power dynamics in Southern Oregon's largest health system.
